Ridgeland’s new Freedom Ridge Park opened last week, drawing many fans to a high school softball tournament. The popular venue is already a favorite for bikers, hikers, and runners, with several routes across town.

The facility includes baseball and softball fields, three playgrounds, a lighted walking trail, and a special event space. It also hosts special needs recreational programs like Miracle League Baseball and HoopS Basketball for people with disabilities. More by clicking here.

Sports Facilities

With an abundance of top-notch recreational amenities, residents can embrace a sophisticated lifestyle in the prestigious community of Freedom Ridge. The pristine parks and trails offer an opportunity to take in nature’s beauty while engaging in an invigorating outdoor workout or a leisurely stroll with friends and family.

The North Recreational Complex boasts state-of-the-art baseball, softball, and soccer fields featuring Bermuda grass, 14 batting cages, a two-story field house with concession areas, covered pavilions, and playgrounds. The facility also features the Odyssey High Challenge Course and a six-acre lake with fishing, walking trails, and a beach.

INF/OF Brooks Crawley (Northwest Rankin, 2026) showcased his power potential this weekend at the Mississippi Preseason ID event in Ridgeland with some serious exit velocity numbers. He has a mature look with a polished skill set on both sides of the ball and could play all three infield positions with ease. On the mound, he worked in the low 80s with a good feel for all of his pitches.

Parks & Recreation

The city of Ridgeland offers a variety of parks and recreational opportunities. The city’s multiuse trail system runs through beautiful wooded areas. The trails offer a great opportunity for hiking, biking, and walking. The city’s recreational facilities include a multi-use park, sports fields, and playgrounds.

Wolcott Park features a youth baseball/softball complex, batting cages, and a playground. There are also covered pavilions, lighted walking trails, and picnic tables. The park is the site of several special events throughout the year.

In 2018, the city opened the Zelda & Wayne Parker Miracle League Field at the park. The field is designed to provide a safe and suitable environment for those with disabilities to enjoy the game of baseball. The city’s recreation department also sponsors Miracle League baseball and partners with Mississippi Special Olympics to provide recreational programs for basketball, soccer, and baseball/softball for children with special needs. Events & Festivals

From rock & roll to country to jazz, Mississippi has a rich history of music. Musicians from around the region perform at events throughout Ridgeland that showcase their talents and attract visitors to the area.

Ridgeland’s Parks & Recreation Department partners with TOPSoccer to hold a Soccer Jamboree to teach youth with disabilities fundamental soccer skills. More than 450 children attended the event held at Freedom Ridge on Wednesday morning.

During KidFest! Ridgeland kids meet Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. The festival also features big top acts, a children’s activity tent, and an Easter egg hunt. Other attractions include A Grizzly Experience – an educational bear show featuring Yogi the 7-year-old grizzly bear and her two cubs as they interact with their handler and talk about the remarkable bond between a man and his animal.

Other shows include The Magical Poodles, Zoppe an Italian Family Circus, and Hilby, the Skinny German Juggle Boy. Gator Boys Alligator Wrestling, featured on Animal Planet’s “Gator Boys” television series is another festival highlight. Check out this interesting post!
